    Like the Friday the 13th serial movies, Obama released Health Care Reform Proposal III, "Putting Americans in Control of Their Health Care" on the White House website. The Podium President points to "outrageous profit" in the health industry as the major cause for reform. The failure of the many health reform sequels lies in the fact that most Americans don't want to cede control of their health choices to their government. At least the labeling of this latest sequel seems to acknowledge that fact.

    The Journal Reports that former Secretary of State, Alexander Haig, has died at age 85. In the moments following the failed assassination attempt on President Reagan, Haig notoriously misstated the constitutional succession to the President, "I am in control here, in the White House." The press interpreted Haig's statement as an unconstitutional claim of executive power and hastened Haig's departure from the Reagan Administration. Haig later claimed his statement intended to simply assure the U.S. that the crisis was under control. Confirming a consistent understanding is critical to successful communication. Repeat what you hear in your own words to confirm that you understood the speaker properly.

For example, the last paragraph begins, "If we take follow (sic) the plans laid out in the Budget, ..." The statement is full of redundancies and expanded discretionary commitments while claiming fiscal discipline and attempting to lay blame on Bush for $8 trillion of forecast deficits. You can't blame your predecessor for your own inattention and discretion.
